Jeep tour, 13 days

Day 1/2 Arrival at Dushanbe.
Meeting the group at the airport. Transfer to the hotel Lotus****. Accommodation. Rest. Excursion about the city. Visit to Gurminj Museum of traditional musical instruments and Museum of Antiquities, a wonderful of Buddhist art from the lost cities of Kushan empire, the Greco-Bactrian school of art from various sites along the Oxus and elsewhere, with great Buddha in Nirvana (After destroying of Bamian Buddha in Afghanistan this is the biggest in Central Asia).

Day 3 Dushanbe - Kalai-Humb.(380km,7-8hrs).
Departure to Pamirs on High Way M41. Via Kulyab region. We can see more conservative attitudes of this region in local dressing style and beards, but the hospitality is just as welcoming. Kalaikhum and the scenery and the people change again. The people here are Badakhshanis with their own languages. There are seven different languages used in Tajik Pamirs. Kalaikhum sits on the Panj River, a major tributary of the famous Amu Darya (Oxus) River. Accommodation in a private guesthouse.

Day 4 Kalai-Humb - Khorog.(260km,5-6hrs).
The road will follow near Panj River, a tributary of the mighty Amu Darya (the famous River Oxus). During this entire trip, we will see Afghanistan from right side across the river, where the big difference of lifestyle of Afghan and Tajik Pamirs is visible. We will see the effort of the Afghanis to have their first highway that is built with no machinery. Khorog is the administrative centre of the Pamir region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Ghunt rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks. Accommodation in a private guesthouse.

Day 5 Khorog- Ishkashim.(120km,3-4hrs).
Not far from Khorog (45 km) there are the famous Mineral Hot Spring-Garm Chashma and Ruby Mines of Khu i Lal (where Badakhshani rubies were mined as early as 14th century). The road to Ishkashim is smooth journey. Ishkashim is a small town at the mouth of the Wakhan corridor, where the 19th century Great Game ended. Continue up the north side of the river with amazing views of the Pamirs to the left and the Hindu Kush to the right; a number of peaks in view are above 6,000m. If you are lucky and you arrive to Ishkashim on Saturday, you can see the Crosse border Tajik-Afghan market on the Afghan side. For crossing to the market, you do not need an Afghan visa hotel Dekhli Darbor**.

Day 6 Ishkashim - Langar.(140km,5-6hrs).
On the way visit to one of old fortress in Silk Rode-Kah-Kaha in Namadgut, museum of Sufi Muborak-kadami Vakhani, a local Sufi scholar, theologian, poet and traveller, who died in 1910. Near his house, there is a stone pillar with a hole, which he used to calculate a solar calendar and a local house with inscriptions and decorations made by the scholar. On the way we will visit Buddhist Stupa in Vrang, sacred hot springs of Bibi Fatima Zahra, ruins of Yamchun fortress (IV-III B.C.) that once guarded Pamir branch of the Great Silk Road. Homestay.

Day 7 Langar-Burunkul(150km,5-6hrs).
In the cool of the morning, make a steep climb above Langar village and see the petroglyphs carved into the rock, depicting mountain goats, caravans, horse riders with banners, and the Ismaili symbol of a hand. After lunch, drive north over Khargush Pass to Yashikkul Lake. Once again, the landscape and peoples change as we slowly go higher into the Pamirs. We have left behind the lush valley of the Wakhan and the Pamiri tribes. The terrain here is becoming barren and rocky. This region is inhabited by nomadic Kirgyz herders. Spend the night in a local home near Bulunkul lake.

Day 8 Burunk-Murgab(145km,3-4hrs).
Rejoin the Pamir Highway and continue to Murghab (3,630m). The terrain here is desolate but has a stark beauty to it. The view of the night sky is stunning for anyone who lives in a city – the Milky Way can be clearly seen as a bright splash. Accommodation in Murghab is in a very good homestay arranged by a local ecotourism project. There is an opportunity to buy handcrafts made by local people from felt and yak hair.

Day 9 Murgab- Rangkul-Murgab(120km,3-4hrs).
Drive to Rangkul. The Kirgyz keep yak, sheep and goats, and in summer take them to the higher pastures. Stay in a yurt camp with local herders. Bactrian camels are native to this region, and at Rangkul we have the opportunity to tryriding a camel. Spend the afternoon camel trekking near the lake.

Day 10 Murgab - Khorog.(320km,6-7hrs).
Breakfast. Excursion about the surroundings. Further transfer toward the town of Murgab. Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight at the hotel Dekhli Darbor** .

Day 11 Khorog - Kalai-Humb.(260km,5-6hrs).
Breakfast. Visit to the botanical garden and further transfer to the town of Kalaihumb. Lunch on the way; dinner and overnight at the guest house.

Day 12 Kalai-Humb - Dushanbe.(380km,7-8hrs).
Breakfast. Drive toward Dushanbe via Kulyb. Lunch on the way. Dinner at the oriental tearoom. Accommodation in a private guesthouse.

Day 13 Dushanbe – Departure.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
